I Ching Explorer

Our History
This web site was created by a long time I Ching Scholar, computer scientist, former University Professor and Microsoft Employee, who is now the independent online business owner.
Our goal was to bring together modern achievements of computer science and thousands years of successful I Ching divination practice, to create a unified 360° view on our spiritual and day-to-day life. As a result - this IChing360.com web site was born.
Our I Ching Discoveries

We see our humble contribution to I Ching Scientology in the following 5 core areas:

  1. Hexagram Transformations
  2. Hexagram Satellite Orbits
  3. Digram Orbits and Digram Interpretations
  4. New Hexagram Reading Layout
  5. Hexagram Casting Techniques
Hexagram Transformations

Traditional I Ching resources normally mention only following 5 hexagram derived from their primary hexagram as a result of some sort of single line manipulations.

  1. Nuclear Hexagram - introduced in Han Dynasty (202 B.C. – 220 B.C.).
  2. Inversed Hexagram - unknown author.
  3. Reversed Hexagram - introduced by Master Lai Zhi De (1562 A.C. – 1609 A.C.) of the Ming dynasty.
  4. Rotated Hexagram - unknown author.
  5. Evolutional Hexagram - introduced by Mondo Secter (1993)
Our research has shown that there are many other, never discussed before, hexagram transformations, which need to be added to a picture to get a deeper, more inclusive reading and interpretation of every I Ching casting.
-- Monogram-level Transformation
  • Monogram-based Swap Transformations.
  • Monogram-based Flip Transformations.
  • Monogram-based Flip-with-Inverse Transformation
Digram-level Transformation
A common feature of all transformations in this newly discovered group is that they apply to the digrams as the individual building blocks of each hexagrams. Digrams can be rotated, evolved, swapped, flipped and flipped-with-inverse producing new hexagrams related to their parent one.
  • Digram Rotate Transformations.
  • Digram Evolutional Transformations.
  • Digram Swap
  • Digram Flip
  • Digram-based Flip-with-Inverse Transformation
Trigram-level Transformation
Hexagram transformations of this group manipulate the trigrams as a hexagram building blocks. Similar to Digrams, Trigrams can be rotated, evolved, swapped, flipped and flipped-with-inverse producing new hexagram group related to their primary one.
  • Trigram Rotate Transformations.
  • Trigram Evolutional Transformations.
  • Trigram Swap
  • Trigram Flip
  • Trigram-based Flip-with-Inverse Transformation
You can get more insights about hexagram transformations in Gua Transformations page in this web site.
Hexagram Orbits
Discussed above the Monogram-, Digram- and Trigram related transformations applied to their own one parent hexagram, naturally create divination orbits as it is shown below. With this advanced knowledge in hands, every specific situation, related to particular primary hexagram, looks more like a planetary system now, rather than one point in divination space.
Casted Hexagram - New Reading Layout
A new reading layout brings together all artifacts of mentioned above 3 newly discovered Gua transformations groups, adding to its fabric one additional, but extremely important thread - a chain of moving lines. For more details about moving line interpretations in I Ching Community feel free to visit a Moving Lines Page in this web site. Our approach in interpretation of moving lines brings together so-called Yin-Transformed, Yan-Transformed and Anti-Hexagram enforcing sequential moving lines chain of hexagrams.
Hexagrams - New Casting Techniques
We see our contribution to a rich set of already exisiting I Ching casting techniques in introducing new, original set of casting techniques based on digrams. In I Ching symbolism, the low, middle and upper digrams in each hexagram represent Earth, Mankind and a Heaven with human being a focal mediation and connection channel between Heaven and Earth.

With that said, using casting techniques which produce digrams directly, rather than one-line-at-a-time in traditional line-by-line casting, may have a special importance for a growing group of I Ching diviners who prefer to make their interpretations of casted hexagram using underlying digrams patterns (and their communications with each other) inside the casted hexagram.

You will be able to find our 5 original digram casting techniques - including a very special for I-Ching Traditionalists Yarrow Stalks based Digram Method - in our Master Channel pages.

For structured overview of exisiting and new I Ching casting techniques feel free to read our dedicated Casting Techniques page in this web site.
